TORO
TORO was developed in response to an assignment calling for the creation of an experience utilizing VR in order to showcase how VR can be used in the future to educate others and to bring awareness to social issues. Our team chose to create a typography focused language learning experience utilizing programs such as Unity, Adobe Suite, and CAVE2 technology.
TORO aims to cultivate new language learning skills in an immersive free-roam virtual reality setting. Our design process led us to creating a culmination of meaningful experiences, each carefully designed to draw in, entertain, and keep the participant’s attention. The goal of these singular experiences was to ultimately result in a tangible lesson in the form of language understood. Visual clarity was instrumental in remaining understandable which is why we chose to create a minimal abstract cityscape with saturated red, sans-serif type allocated throughout the map in order to heighten the memorability of the words and experiences.
The team was awarded a Level 1 Open Project Developer Badge from IBM for this project and the work was featured at the 2022 SIGGRAPH conference in Vancouver.
